the dating arena

August 26th, 2005

going on a blind date, even if it’s in groups, is not my cup of tea. people are so good at charades, they would always want to impress you just so they can “win” you. of course this principle doesn’t always apply. some people just wanted to get in your pants, some are simply open to the idea and have fun meeting people, some are looking for a serious relationship.

i was chatting with a friend over at ym and he showed me this dating site. it’s a dating business where people sign up for a whopping fee of 800 pesos. that would probably get you into a dating event somewhere in a posh bar or resto where you get to mingle with 20 other people.

YM BUD: i can’t believe two of the people i know coughed up 800 pesos to join this stupid dating event. that’s pretty expensive, you know, just to get yourself a date.

ME: i would want to join for fun! *heh*. but seriously, i won’t pay up that much just to get myself into that event. i mean, i could just go to a bar, talk to someone, buy us some beer. that’d be cheaper, no? haha!

YM BUD: i’d rather look for someone in church. para kahit hindi ka nakahanap ng love mo, banal ka naman.

ME: no such thing as banal na tao. moral, meron. self-righteous, meron. poser, meron. *HEH*

i’m not against dating events such as these, and i generally think that it can be fun even though you weren’t able to find anybody interesting by the end of the day. but i wouldn’t count on “dating” per se to find that one person. i know a lot of frustrated people who felt disappointed because they “weren’t the type”, then resigns to the belief that they will end up old and lonely. it’s human nature to want somebody to love and be loved in return, ya know.

dating has its pros and cons, and a bad con at that *heh*. thing is, it shouldn’t stop you from enjoying the perks of being single. our lives don’t solely revolve around a single person, that would be constrictingly boring no? care as much, love as much, live life as much, and you’ll find that there’s always room to grow. there are many people around you to fill the rest of your days :)

Dating is never easy. Early in the search for love, people find the golden formula for meeting a soul mate is one part humiliation, two parts aggravation, and a little blind luck thrown in for the fortunate.

Today’s dating game is a blur of websites, speed lunches and hordes of friends and relatives who know just the wrong person for you.
