postcrossing: the postcard exchange project

November 30th, 2007

postcrossinga postcard from germany arrived the other day, exactly two weeks after the sender got my random address from the website. it’s been years since i’ve last received good ‘ol snail mail, and even though we can easily exchange letters through email, nothing beats having handwritten letters in your mailbox. a friend of mine, who loves receiving snail mails (and even requests some from me hehe), introduced postcrossing to me and i instantly got hooked!

you simply sign up for an account, provide a mailing address and start retrieving five random addresses at a time. it won’t give you addresses from your home country, i think. excited, i went over to the bookstore to look for nice postcards so i could start bragging about our wonderful marine ecosystem and stuff like that. for some reason, i was not impressed with their postcard collection– they all sucked. how the hell am i supposed to feel proud about the picture i’m describing? the philippines might have the silliest government ever to exist, but there’s no denying that its beauty is frikkin awesome. and i can’t let some crappy postcard deny others that.

so anyway, i started asking my favorite local photographers permission to print their landscape photos and i’m glad they agreed. so, yay!! ^^ i hope the ones who’ll receive my letters would find the philippines fascinating.
