postcrossing: the postcard exchange project

postcrossing a postcard from germany arrived the other day, exactly two weeks after the sender got my random address from the website. it’s been years since i’ve last received good ‘ol snail mail, and even though we can easily exchange letters through email, nothing beats having handwritten letters in your mailbox. a friend of mine, who loves receiving snail mails (and even requests some from me hehe), introduced postcrossing to me and i instantly got hooked!

you simply sign up for an account, provide a mailing address and start retrieving five random addresses at a time. it won’t give you addresses from your home country, i think. excited, i went over to the bookstore to look for nice postcards so i could start bragging about our wonderful marine ecosystem and stuff like that. for some reason, i was not impressed with their postcard collection– they all sucked. how the hell am i supposed to feel proud about the picture i’m describing? the philippines might have the silliest government ever to exist, but there’s no denying that its beauty is frikkin awesome. and i can’t let some crappy postcard deny others that.

so anyway, i started asking my favorite local photographers permission to print their landscape photos and i’m glad they agreed. so, yay!! ^^ i hope the ones who’ll receive my letters would find the philippines fascinating.

hide the blogger navbar

i’ve moved to the new blogger beta and it has been a nice stay so far. well, except for the annoying blogger navbar that wasn’t there before i made the switch. so for those who wanted to get rid of it, here’s a simple code that you have to paste inside the <head> tag.

share your cool playlist with audioscrobbling

sometimes people (and probably some online profiling stuff like friendster) would ask me what kind of music i listen to, then i’d find myself repeating what i’ve told the last person who asked me that question. replying with “hmm, quite a lot” or “i listen to brit rock” will probably limit a potentially nice conversation to a mere “i see”.

LAST.FM

this is not the most useful application on the internet, but it sure is a nice way to get a good idea what your buddies listen to. :)

i noticed they added a new feature that tells you how compatible you are with your buddy in terms of music taste.

AND you get to display your recent playlist on your blog, your frienster, flickr, or any service that supports feeds.

plugin works with itunes, winamp, windows media player and other popular music player. so in case you’re hooked as well, don’t forget to add me! :D

that’s right kids, why save it as a favorite when you can DOWNLOAD the whole sweet thing? thanks to dredd for sharing this tip!

first, you got to have firefox. why? 1) because this tip only works with kickass firefox, 2) other browsers can just suck it. lol.

1. Install the Greasemonkey Extension for Firefox.

2. Right-click this .js file and select “Install User Script” (if you don’t see that option try step one again)

3. Now on every youtube video page there should be a red bar at the top, that says “Save As” to download Flash video.

4. Right click the text in the red bar, select “Save Link As,” and save the file as a .flv file. Firefox will rty to save it as “get_video.php,” you need to change the “.php” to “.flv,” and change the first part to whatever you prefer.

Now you need to either download a media player that runs .flv files, or download a program that converts them to other file types. Here are links to both:
